Post RE: 924S questions

I'm considering a 1987 924S that's for sale by me. I know that it's pretty much a 944 2.5 in a 924 body, but of course, I have some ?'s:
1. Timing belt: did they upgrade the timing belt with the self-tensioning device like they did the the 944 in 1987?
2. I assume the clutch has the same rubber-center damping as the 944 n/a's do, so I should beware of driveline lash and sounds coming from underneath.
3. Is the sunroof power or manual?
4. Is the front suspension the same as what they put in the 85.5 and up 944's, or is it the VW setup?

Thanks for your help,
-Zoltan.

I've seen two kinds sun roofs.
One is removeable and just goes up and dowe.
Another one is power and goes back and forth inside the roof.

To answer your questions. The 924s is identical to the 87 944 on the entire drivetrain and suspension. The roof offered in this car is power and only goes up about 3 inches or removes completely. Yes the 924s uses the same tensioners as the 944.

My 87 924S' power sun roof does go back into the car roof when you open it. However it is smaller than 944 and 88 924S.
BTW mine is early 87 model purchased in late 86.

Eugene,

Your roof must be aftermarket or something. I have never seen or heard of one like this.

Show us pics of that sunroof, inside and out, if you don't mind...
Curious.

Interesting?!!
I don't have any pic right now. It about 2/3 of bigger sunroof size. It has two mode. Up and down. Back and forth. The sun roof doesn't go all the way into the roof. Two switches are in the right front of the trans knob on the center console.
Does every 924S come with sun roof? If so, how can someone put an aftermarket smaller sun roof on? The manual said that the car purchased in late 86 for 87 model in Calif from a Porsche dealer.

I don't know why.

I have indeed seen 924s without a sunroof. OR perhaps it was a 944. I don't quite recall, but they do exist.

THe 87 924S pretty much all came with up and down sunroofs like mine is , but the 88 ones for the most part had none b/c it was a special edition(lighter i guess?) but they only go up and down.
