hello,
i started stripping the interior of my 924 today. man, all i can say is that i'm not going to post the pics right now because they might give you nightmares. the inside of the car looks downright scary! you never realize all the crap like mold, mildew, and junk that resides under the carpets of a 22 year old car. it's damn scary to tell you the truth. my project is to remove all the carpets and interior, then paint the car interior an off-white that my fiancee picked out. the interior of the doors will also be "mninimalized", and i am even going to replace the stock seat belts. if i'm really up to the task (snowball's chance in hell) then i am going to rewire the back half of the car, and also install some electronics in what used to be the rear passenger seat locations. already i have taken about 50lbs of weight out of the car. not bad for 3 hours of work! i'll post up the complete project when i'm done. at the rate i'm going it will only take a week if i'm blessed with good weather. if not, then this will take a while. in any case. under the carpet is some soundproofing material that feels like tarpaper. the original stuff is pretty much wasted. i've started removing the stuff using a hammer and a chisel. i don't want to scratch the primer too much though. what is the best way to remove this stuff from the interior of the car? thanks! obin ------------------ A straight line is the most BORING distance between two points. |

I've been told to pile dry-ice over it, then use plastic or metal scraper to pop up.

Hi Obin. The best way to get the hard sound deadening up is to use a decorators heat gun. You know, the kind that plugs in to the electric socket, and just blows hot air. If you dont get it too hot, it will scrape up neatly. Get it too hot and it just spreads around like butter. The cloth type sound deadening around the rear wheel arches is removed with a blow lamp, or by using paint stripper, which kind of dissolves it, and then when it dries, you just wire brush it off. Hope this is of some help to you.

nigel (and others)
thanks for the advice!!!! yes, i have a heat gun that i bought a year or so ago. it's a nice one that i can set the temp from "blow cold air" to "burn flesh instantly". i am going to pull an all-nighter and i will be stripping the ENTIRE inside of the 924 out (except the dash) this weekend. i am also going to be doing the priming and possibly the painting too. i am also taking pictures of my progress and i will post the whole thing up when i am done. i will also put my entire budget for the project. so far it's under $20 ![]() thanks so much! obin |
