Question 924 Warm start problem

Hello all,
Hello all,

My 83 924 2 litre baby won't fire up for a while (like a minute of constant cranking) after cooling for a few minutes after a long run. Recently serviced and running really well apart from this. Any ideas?

cheers

Joe

It sounds like the fuel pressure might be dropping shortly after shutdown.

Fuel accumulator is USUALLY the culprit.

Good luck.

Yes, or the check valve in the fuel pump, or a combination of both accum and fuel pump, and also, but rarely, it could be the relief valve in the fuel distrib, but that is your overall pressure, if car runs good once started that probably wouldn't be problem.

If you want a temporary fix because you can't find the problem after you replace accumulator, or you can't afford an accumulator:
Hook up your cold start valve to come on when hot the car will start, i figure it is because the cold start valve will atomize the fuel good, doesn't need much pressure, whereas the injectors just drip the fuel and/or bad spray.
My car starts fine with cold start hooked up, i have exact same prob as you, the car will start though if i crank it for 20 seconds, because of ful pressure finally building up i guess!

Easy to see if accumulator is causing the problem is to take out the little screw in the bottom. Gas will leak out if the diaphram is busted.

To get cranked hot with this or the check valve gone bad, you can work the flap in the fuel distributor to let off control pressure.

It could also be voltage related too...ya'll ever heard of that mysterious 924 cranking problem? Check the grounds on the battery too....if you have done this already and have gotten new cables, then i would listen to the other guys in this post.
