Post transporting a 924

What will be needed to strap a 924 down to a Uhaul trailer? What points do you use to strap it down? Thanks.

don't buy a car that needs to be towed, are you buying one?
The engine could be so ****ed up inside you will have to spend thousands.

AMCPorsche924Powerhaus... I think he is just moving ie the u-haul trailer process.

Their are lot's of reasons a car may need a trailer tow. Bodyshop, mechanicals, brakes or just plain old moving the homestead...

AMCPorsche924Powerhaus: The one I'm looking at runs but is 200+ miles away. The 944 I talk about is my moms. I want one of my own to mod for autox.

Cool

we're transported our 924 and 944 several times via trailer (when we moved). we rented a truck and car carrying trailer from U-Haul. even when moving the 944 over 100 miles it was under $200.

here's how it goes...

the FRONT wheels are strapped onto the trailer by using these really thick straps that come with the trailer.

then there is a chain at the rear. we run this chain through those little holes that face downward in the rear suspension. you want it sort of tight so that the car does not roll too far if (God forbid) a strap were to break.

plan on entering and exiting the car through the rear hatch. trust me on this one, i've had to do it 5 times. it's easier to go through the hatch than to scratch the door getting in and out.

put the car in first gear after it is secured to the trailer bed. this way if something happens it is still in gear. you also don't want it rolling back and forth as the truck accelerates and decelerates.

good luck!

Obin

Thanks for the advice. The car transporter I rented didn't have the wheel straps it had chains front and rear.

Unfortantly I didn't get the car he said it was a turbo but it wasn't and after going around the block once you couldn't get it to go into gear. So the search continues.

ok, good luck! in the future get the ones with the wheel straps. if you can't find that kind then don't transport the car that way. the straps that go around the wheels are the best way.

good luck!
