Post center console update

hi folks.

last weekend i decided to make my center console useful instead of having those tape holders in there. i am using it for a sunglasses holder which i bet alot of you are doing, but i put in some black felt on the inside like in a new car (acura TL2.5 for example) but to make it a more professional quality job i found this flet stuff at walmart with a sticky backing and this 1.5mm thick black closed-cell foam. i stuck the fabric to the foam sheet and cut out the shape with a template i made and i got very professional results. i surprised myself!

also i am using the ash tray as a coin holder and it used to be really loud when you cornered hard because the coins would clank around and they are distracting. now i have the ashtray lined with that felt stuff and its really quiet. also you know how the coins will slide up under there to the left where you can reach them? well i cut a little block of wood out to fit in there and block the coins from sliding over. covered it with the felt stuff and it all looks pretty much factory installed.

although some of you meatheads will think this is sillyl, im really picky cars not having enough little hoppers and compartments for coins, sunglasses, phone, wallet, etc... and this helps out alot.

you found this fabric at walmart? whats it called? I like the idea of using it to line the center console. I dont know about the ashtray though. I drive a 87 944NA and inside the console there is a plastic divider that you can put your change in. I dont remember it being on my dads ol' 83 944.

What I have done with my center console is added two folding cup holder on top of the armrest. I made mine myself and look just like the ones that Performance Products sells for the 911's.

I purchased the two folding cup holders at any Auto Supply store. Normally these hang on your door but I didn't like the way it looked. I covered the top of the holder with padding and brown leather. Then attached it to the center armrest with double stick tape or velcro. Folded it acts as an armrest. Unfolded it holds up to a 32oz cup.

Perfomance Products sells this for about $90.00 for two. I spent less than $15.00 for both.
