Bypass pipe? With a switch... Now this looks intersting...
Well I was surfing the web for some nifty mods for my car.. and I came across this.
Description: Keep Your Dirty Secret Under Your Car This is the thing you open to kick some a... Absolutely will increase your HP gain. Instantly move from silence to thunder. Remote control operated, this little device was constructed by JCW and is top quality. We recommend purchasing this device with a vacuum gauge to see the progress as the unit opens up. This is a cheap way out from spending a fortune on custom headers, performance muffler and free-flow cat. converter. Just remember, you have to install this bypass after the oxygen sensor. CAST-IRON EXHAUST CUTOUT Dash control increases power, adjusts tone while you drive You two exhaust systems in one: (1) CLOSED QUIET EXHAUST for city and restricted areas; (2) WIDE-OPEN EXHAUST system for the open road and country driving when you want more speed, more power and gas economy. Made of cast iron. Requires welding. Mounts behind catalytic converter where applicable. With 5-ft. dash-control cable… Fits pipe 1-3/4" to 2-1/4" Note: Check local emission laws before ordering. __________________________________________________ See... looks pretty interesting.. And it's priced @ under $50. What's your views on this item? Does it increase hp? Or will it cause damage? Thanks for your time guys... Stay safe. Bye.

These are the infamous "Sneak Leaks" that some of my hot-rodding buddies used to use years ago.
Converts your exhaust from "muffled" to "straight pipes" in 2 seconds flat.

So would any of you recommend using this? Does it increase hp or performance while opened?

It would on a turbo. On a 85 like yours it will reduce back pressure, reduce low end torque, make a hell of a racket, and add small amounts of hp to your top end. It would be handy if you needed to get somebody's attention. Kinda like a big block Vette with side pipes. LOUD! I dont think their worth it unless you race your car in a class that allows open pipes and drive it home later.

My friend has a pair of those on his V6 mustang (he had converted to a trued dual exhaust). It definatly made his car a lot louder, but it still just sounds liike a V6 with some screwed up exhaust. If you like your car pretty loud then you might like these. I had the muffler off on my old 944 for a while and the sound was not too bad at all
