High side pressures are well above the range of most tire gages.

That Wilk, always a-thinkin. Y'know, a lot of bike gauges (where the shraeder has it's 3 most applied application, next to a/c and Big Apple Dominatrix') go well over 100psi (road bikes have insane pressures). How high would an auto a/c be? Do you have to check it on the high side? would the low side be adequate just to see if you have press. or not?

When the system is off, the pressure should equilibrate to somewhere around 60 psig everywhere, depending on the temperature which defines the vapor pressure. I've never put my tire gauge on it but I don't seen any problem. My gauge is a Bourden (sp) type gauge. I even use it to check water pressure. Innards are brass, I believe. When running, high pressure side would be way to high for my gauge which only goes to 60 psig.

I'm off to Road Atlanta for a PCA DE this weekend. Leaving shortly and will enjoy my new Sanden compressor that I installed two months ago.

Also just finished replacing compressor on my old MB last weekend. I feel cool!

I can think of one issue with using a tire gauge(other than the high side pressure).

It would lead to frost bite You know how you always seem to lose about 5psi of pressure just trying to get the damn gauge to read on the tire..... Besides, most gauges are metal, it'll get cold real fast.

Here is a good question. Where can we get just the Barrier hoses without having to buy the whole Kuehl A/C kit?

I'm 57 years young and can't for the life of me ever remember any r12 cans with anything but the male threaded end which would be connected to the yellow hose on the a/c manifold set or directly to the low pressure, male threaded, side of the compressor.

If you piped it directly into the compressor from the can with the hose that came as a kit, without a manifold set, you had no idea what the high side pressure is, taking a big chance on running the pressure too high.

I've worked on a bunch of old a/c when r12 was $1 a can and never saw any r12 systems with a schraeder valve on the high or low side.
