I may have solved my 2 year long suspension problem (pic attached)

In my never ending quest to discover why I have a popping thunking noise when I stop hard or roll backwards down a hill and stop, I decided to seperate the tie rod ends tonight.

I have replaced the entire suspension with the exception of these little guys, and what did I find? The tie rod end is jammed to on side! I have to use a hammer to move it, check this picture out:

Even if this is not the problem, it sure does answer a few driveability issues that I have.

Congrats feels good to idenify and repair a problem. Good job.

I have a similar isue with the Intrepid when in reverse there is a noticable wobble from the right front. I am not looking forward to tearing into this job.

Thanks, and what's even more interesting is that I discovered that I have an LSD transmission from a 92' in it. I was testing the CV's in gear for the first time ever and noticed that as I rotated the left wheel forward the right wheel turned in reverse. I then pulled the numbers off the side of the transaxel, and sure enough someone dropped in an LSD tranny in some point. According to the option code sticker it did not come with this option.

YeeeHaw!!!!!!!!

I you had a limited slip diff then it seems both rear wheels would turn the same dirrection when you move one. If it isnt limited slip the spyder gears would cause one wheel to turn backward if you turn the other wheel forward. I know that is the way other cars work I would think Porsche would work the same way.

Oh yeah, congrats on finding your suspension problem.

If they turned the same direction that would be a "posi" type setup, both wheels turning forward when pressure is applied, correct? I can let the clutch out in 1st, hold a tire and the other still spins.

Anyway my last DE instructor was convinced it was LSD even though I told him the option tag stated otherwise.

If you have a LSD, both wheels rotate the same direction is you spin one of them. If you let the clutch out, then both wheels should spin at the same speed.

Just curious, does the Porsche LSD use friction clutches like most posi units or is it a "ratchet" style similar to a Detroit Locker?

"Posi" is an LSD, it's just a name brand thing "Positrac". Both wheels would spin in the same direction if the back end of the car is jacked up and one wheel is spun. With my LSD on the Conquest, I can actually jack up one side of the car and break the lugnuts loose on a back wheel, even with the car out of gear.

Tires that spin in opposite directions is just a side effect of a standard differential.
