Post Disappointing experience

I went to see the Burgendy 944. The starting price was 9000 thats what the guy was asking for, its an NA so obviously it is overpriced but i decided that if i liked the car i would try and talk him down some. Anyway my expectations were high considering the price and when i got there i was sugnificantly disappointed. First thing i noticed was that it was an automatic.....even though the add didn't say anything about transmition i guess i assumed(which i will be careful not to do in the future) that it was a 5 speed.

second there were scratches and dents, not alot of them but noticable. I drove it and it drove fine but the thing thats there to keep the sun out of your eyes kept hitting me in the head and going 40 down a small street the car kept at 3000rpm, which seems kinda high, probably because of the automatic right?

well i thought i'd get some of the aggression out by writing this.....kinda like therapy but cheeper...

- called a sunvisor... the fix is to replace a simple plastic part... guess poor maintenance or lack of owner care is on the list

- yes, auto's get all wound up and give little in return. sorry to say but ya probable should have asked about the transmission in a call to the guy. If you had said clutch, he may have admitted to an auto. It's not fair to say auto cars are any less in value but they sure are tough to sell.

"Insert bad word here", the price led me to the impression that the car would be of great quality and condition.. suprised you even took it for a ride... At seeing an auto, I would have laughed and walked away.

keep venting, you deserve a good rant

i realize the sunvisor is not a big deal at all and the thing in the door that was broken is not a big deal, and niether is the fact that the seatbelt did not work (the part u clip it into) but all those things plus the auto....added up, too many inperfections for an expensive car

and believe it or not, most autos that i've seen being sold, are more expensive, alot more expensive

yes, the idea is that with an auto, the car will more likly be less thrashed. All of the typical 944 problems are still present with the exception of the rubber center clutch. However, the auto trans presents it's own set of problems. Things like trans cooler line leaks, low volume parts like the flex plate and the annoying fact that it is limited to just three foreward speeds.

Another dissapointment is that an auto car will be at 4K on the tach and will be doing only 80mph. (auto guy's help out here if I have this detail wrong) The manual trans cars will be pulling 80 at only 3K with a lot more power in reserve as the motor is in the front of it's sweet spot (951's are a much bigger animal and have a better sweet spot)

The other stat's effecting the auto value is that a lot less of them were manufactured. Typically female owned and with very few performance modifications done to the car.
An auto car is also more often adult owned, loaded with most of the factory options and is heavier in weight. Gas mileage is also down.

Sorry to say it but nothing will impress your friends more than watching you shift from 1st into D (I know I'll get a few hot responses for this last comment but after having had several z-cars, but only one with an auto, I personnaly know the slush box performance issue. Also, a good and close friend of mine has an 944 auto car... she likes it, I don't)

i wonder if there has been anybody in the history of the world that has been satisfied choosing a 944 auto over 5-spd.

By the way the only way I would even think about paying 9 large for a 944 is if its a TURBO and it is in great shape........the 944 auto that you were looking at has a squerril for an owner that is looking for a nut..... I hope you run like ell.....Stan

About the auto over the manual. I am 1000x more happy that it's an auto. It's my daily driver for a long commute, special case I guess.

My daily driver has always been an manual (since my first car which was auto) and I have never had any problems with that. I like manual.

um a couple of things

1. about the wiggyb car, i dont want an early 944 because i cant stand the interior and also i dont want to buy a project car, i dont have the money or the mechanical experience to do it.

2. i see how a daily driver on a long comute to work would be easier done in a auto, especially through traffic, but why buy a porsche if you are just gunna take it to work and back everyday through traffic, cant have much fun there but you are still paying for it

3. i am defenetly not going to buy that car, i never planned on spending 9 grand, i thought if the car was in really good shape i might go for 7, but that would be tops. and i drove it just because i didn't wanna hurt the guys feelings, it was a college kid a little older than me but he knew nothing about the car and was selling it for his girlfriend's dad who didn't wanna bother with the car because he was selling a $32,000 911........so i took it for a spin but it was defenetly fun even though an auto but then again it was really weak

if its a daily driver for long commute, you stick it in 5th, and get good mileage. No shifting required. so whats so great about an auto? bad mielage, and its stuck in gear, smae as a manual, except you get bad mileage.
I'm not understanding.
