broken sideview mirror
unfortunately my left sideview mirror is broken and i am need to replace it. instead of getting stock sideview mirrors, i am curious what aftermarket mirrors are available. also, if anybody has an rad mods/customs done to their mirrors, i would love to see pics
any help is always appreciated |

as far as mods, what about tear-drop mirrors off a 968, they look good and will work

i recommend the aero mirrors off a 968/993... they are a huge stylistic improvement.

Now how is your side mirror broken? If the mirror housing has come off of the base it can be reattached. Have to remove the wires from the plug and pull them back through the base. If the mirror glass has fallen out it can be glued back on it's sub frame. Use a filled epoxy as these have a heating grid in them. If the mirror glass and sub frame have fallen off these can be put back on and the twist ring turned and locked. If the mirror is flopping around inside the housing then you have to find a used mirror transmission and replace the inch long drive rack(s). Hint: Most cars of the middle to late 80's and into the 90's used the same electric mirror transmissions. So you just need to take yours out and visit a few major salvage yards in your area. Don't pay more than $10. I've found them in mustangs.

i must i admit i avoided putting a sig. up until now cause my car don't sound too impressive yet.
i was in NJ visiting some family and my uncle drove my car into his garage. unfortunately he misjudged the width (i guess) and smashed the right side-view mirror the housing did not break off the car but i must re-examine it to make sure it is still secure the mirror is completely cracked and broken. though not flopping inside the tranny, it is obviously loose. the 968 mirror sounds like a great idea. does pelican sell this part? (i haven't checked but will after i post this) anything i should keep in mind in the removal and installation of these mirrors? thanks again for all the help

These are designed to fold back along the car when hit. Search this section for doing the 944 to 968 mirrors. I think "968 mirror" should get you to the old thread with the links to the artical. One thing the author may not mention is the metric wiring pins can be remove with a metric pin tool. He wants you to cut the wires and install an imperial or inch sized connector -- NOT! I did respond to the thread and gave the brand name and part number for the tool.

you could replace the mirror, beaware I think yours are heated.
so dont just glue one on, get the right part £30 uk
