A few months back, I bought a catch pawl for the parking brake from a dealer. They had to order it though, and I was surprized that it wasn't all that expensive.

They still have 95% of the parts available. Over the years they have even replaced old ones with upgrades or totally new parts by other manufacturers. Even if you have some special part in mind they can still order it. I once had a part ordered at my local dealer that wasn't in stock here or at the main warehouse, so they ordered a new batch to be made at one of their suppliers. Pretty expensive, but i got what i needed and all i had to do was give them the part number.

In my experience the parts from the dealer usually aren't that bad. It is the labor there that kills.

It's a VW part. They made over 15 million VW's.

I'd hate to see the cost on that...

I've seen where theres a part number for a complete body with protective undercoating ( current year model only )... That would be nice to have

If you're going for a whole new engine... might as well get a 968 crate engine...

Most everything is still available EXCEPT for interior pieces. MOst of the colors have been done away with and are "use until exhausted" Black however, is still widely available.

Yes, crate motors and transmissions are still available.

Thanks AFJuvat..

I Never thought of it before this thread, but just what is the cost of an Early 944 engine (remanufactured) ???

I have found in the 3rd party Xerox service ( 15 ft long machines) that we get used to buying from aftermarket companies and then prices seem to go up slowly on certain items and surpas the Xerox cost. So, I would routinely check out what the OEM cost was just to make sure and many times I bought from the OEM.

Something to think on.
