The Porsche Owners Cup is running a 4hr Day to Night Enduro at Willow Springs this weekend (Saturday Afternoon-Night) 6/2/01.
Last year, the field consisted of no less than a dozen American LeMans, IMSA and GrandAm competitors. Pole was set at 1:20 by a 700+hp 911 racer. In practice the day before, some of the cars were dipping into the 1:19's! For those of you who don't know Willow Springs, that is just blindingly fast! We entered a Porsche 944TurboS Race Car which looked like an antique amidst the field of 996GT3R's, 911 GT2's, RSR's and such. Though we'll merely be spectators this year (we're campaigning a road racing stockcar this year), we expect the excitement to be as great. Rumours have it that Dennis Aase, Craig Stanton and Cort Wagner as will a few more from years past. I hope to see Bill Auberlen, Martin Snow, Milt Minter, Van Overbeek, Raimist, Doolin, and the rest battle it out again. Nothing can describe the visuals of "Flame Throwing" Turbos with red hot glowing brake rotors as they roar into the turns at outrageous speeds. Hey, it's cheaper than going to Daytona... Was planing on going then something else came up.
![]() Everyone else should go though. It is a blast and if I'm not mistaking some of the PCA regions are having a barbeque so its going to be a lot of fun watching the races and talking to other Porsche owners. Maybe next year ------------------ Joshua Harrison 1968 912 Coupe |
