shocks/struts
anyone out there have any strut/shock preferences.............are the Koni's
worth it ? My 87 944 has the sachs sealed struts .......so the price doubles....... I see bilstein only has the rear shocks, no struts for the late model. |

'Worth it' is a personal decision based on the value to you. What are you going to do with the car? In general, Koni is very very good but very very expensive. Lot's of people around here get very satisfactory use out of KYB etc even for track use. If you are, or think you are going to be, very much into track/autocross then 'go Koni'.

Koni yellows are great and relatively economical from Summit (think $225 a piece) but better customer service from paragon products ($250? a piece). If you do springs also, get a strut brace - take my advice you don't want a bent strut housing.
Good luck, Erick |

Best shock set up for the 944 is Bilstein. Easy rear end installation and front inserts should be done by a shop with a re-alignment. I had Sachs and Koni's but the Bilstein gave the superior ride.

I'm soon to install KYB struts and shocks on my 85.5 944.
Is it absolutely mandatory to re-align the front end on these after the new strut installation? Years ago people told me that if you carefully mark the points where you remove the struts first, then re-align in the same location, you don't need to get the car re-aligned. Of course this wasn't necessarily for a Porsche, just in general. ******************************************** * I understand that the front strut is * * actually a cartridge, so is it true that * * no re-alignment is necessary since I am * * not touching the strut housing?? * ******************************************** I have never had a car with front struts, so this will be my first experience with this. I just got the car aligned 3 months ago after finally getting it back on the road (after an engine swap). I would hate to spend another $100 on an alignment that is perfect now. Please advise. If you change struts, you'll need a front end alignment since they are a part of the suspension geometry.
