Torq tube will "move" sounds around.
However it could be the trans going out. If the pinion is climbing the ring gear then you can get some strange sounds as the teeth don't match and the pinion shaft bearings are being forced out of alignment. Can get really nasty when it locks up and splits the case wide open! |

I wonder if he didn't mean that after he let out the clutch and the engine worked its way up to 2500-3000...
|
i don't drop the clutch, but the n/a doesn't have **** for power, and unless i get to at least 2000, you can't make a quick take off, and i hate that shudder... i'm gentle with the clutch
|
Hmm... Didn't we say that the 944 is not a dragster -- street racer?
If not then here: THE 944 IS NOT A DRAGSTER!!! I feel better now. |
i know it's not a dragster, and i don't treat it that way, but with no mods what so ever, in order to accelerate at a moderate pace, you need some power behind it... i usually take off from a dead stop at around 2000, but if it want to accelerate quickly, while being conservative with the clutch, you need to have some power...
(i don't always drive it like that, but when i go for a cruise at night, i'm interested in having fun) |
I've found that I granny the 1st gear till I can get it into second than push hard once the clutch hooks up.
As the flywheel should have been resurfaced the last time it was out I have a bit of chatter if I get stuck in slow traffic. Heats up the clutch. So you have me a bit confused as to the problem area; clutch or trans. I'm still leaning toward the clutch. |
What about something being loose inside the CAT????

I heard a clunking noise from the right rear under hard cornering. I turned out to be the clutch going. Like SoCall said the bell housings and the torque tube can transmit the sound.
|
Roger, That noise in the rear is the axles. The clutch was just to warm you up.
Besides don't you pull the engine on the early 924's to replace the clutch? |
agree with Hugh on this one. axles usually don't make noises under cornering, axles do ;) check the joints
|
I replaced both rear axels and CV's thinking that was the problem. The noise was still there so I took it to the shop to have the tranny checked out. The spring center of the clutch had alot of slop in it. The mechanic said the clutch was not the right part. He was not sure where the clutch disk came from, he said he had never seen a clutch disk like that installed in a 924. I had family comming into town and I did not have the time to change the clutch myself. So I had the shop install a Sachs clutch. The noise went away after that.
