Hmm, sew a long strand of leather strip around base of boot. Then tie it down to a tight knot around the the funnel base.

Wow, that's a new one on me - my inner shift boots have always been incredibly tight on that metal ring, I've had to warm them up to stretch them onto the metal lip!

Do you guys think there is the possibility the PO switch this boot at some time in the past and it is from some other model Porsche?

I believe the 944's used the same boot from '83 through 91.

A new one is about $20, if you'd like to try that - I'd measure mine and let you know diameter, but I'm nowhere near the car. I suspect replacing it'll solve your problem.

Do you mean you can get that rubber boot from a porsche dealer for $20? or Ebay?

Tom:)

I've gotten 3 online, 2 through eBay - that's the easiest option for me.

I bought a new one on ebay - hope it comes in today so i finally can get it all back together - hope this one will fit correctly

Yeah!

Installed the new rubber boot and it fits perfectly - no doubt the PO had the wrong one installed (thats another reason why the leather boot never fit correctly and always was coming off!

It had to be the wrong boot becauser there is no way iy would have stretched so much at the base.

There is a sound absorbing collar that is missing. It goes over the metal ring I think. 477 711 239....Sman

Because I probably didn't know any better I used a tie wrap which graps the rubber boot and it is under that metal ring so it is snuggly held in place and will not wiggle off unless the tie wrap would be cut off.
