What is in a 944 Factory Tool Kit?

Hello guys,

Working on an article on what was originally included in the factory tool kits for 944's. If someone could let me know what tools are included, and what sizes if applicable.

Thanks,

Brian Minson

Whoo boy, depends on year.

Here are the contents of the basic kit.

Spark Plug Wrench (with crossbar)
Lugnut Wrench (with crossbar)
Double ended Wrench (10 & 13mm)
Universal Pliers
Universal screwdriver with handle

TURBO & S2 add
Towing hook

Cars with Option M437 and/or M438 add

Crank for emergency seat control.

All With wheel locks add
Hook to remove wheel nut cover.

From the factory, they used to include a set of plastic gloves and a plastic bag (for tire changing)

No, I had all my tools in the leather holder as well, a wrap up tool holder.
Also, I have the tow on my Euro NA... perhaps the early NAs had the tow. The bumper has the whole for it too, so it's not some random addition from a previous owner.

I could take some pictures with the ol' digital camera if you'd like.
Though I would point out that the tools weren't maintained before I owned the car, so they're not sparkly at this point - but I DID clean them up a bit. Same story with the leather.

I would like pictures of the bumper w/the hole for the tow hook on an early 944 if you don't mind...

Jake,

Take a few photos of your tool kit, and I'll send you a free subscription to 9 magazine for your effort.

944 tool kit = joke.

The two that I have, one from an 83 and one from an 86, look like the tools were made in BumDum, Mongolia. I've replaced these with decent tools (CrapsMans) and gave the guy down the block with the beat up Toyota the "factory" tools. I think he threw them away.

Ahmet,
Sorry I didn't get back to this sooner! (6months isn't bad for a poor quality picture - right!)
Here is a pic from a different post. I took it midway through the bumperette removal process:

That's where you screw the tow hook in. On Euro cars you remove the small, square bumper rubber for access. Or, if you're like some tow truck drivers, run the hook on the sway bar bracket and pull the bar out of the lower control arm..........even better is to hook on the tie rod and bend it. I think you get extra points for that

True that! I was surprised just how shti they were! Looked like they'd come straight from under the saddle of a 70's Honda.

Threw them all in the bin - toolroll included. Just kept the towing eye. Truely wank!

My 83 has all that stuff, minus the tow hook. Sun roof bag, rubber gloves in a baggie, air pump that has to be original, for I can't read or speak a lick of German. Hans must have really laughed at my car when it left the factory, he even threw in a medical kit! Ok, maybe the PO threw that in, but I'm glad he did.
