How do I know if i have LSD?
How do I verify if I have LSD or not? It's an '83 with the 5 speed. When driving I can never get just 1 wheel to spin. If the tires spin it is always both rear tires. I have pulled over onto a gravel shoulder with one tire on the gravel and one on the pavement then I accelerate. I get a small amount of wheel spin from the tire on the gravel but I still accelerate hard. When going around corners while applying throttle it is never just the inside tire that spins, it is both.
So my question is, how do I prove if I LSD? All tests were conducted in a controlled environment with profesional drivers except the gravel test.

It's easy: the hallucinations are a dead giveaway!
In all seriousness, I don't think the 83s had LSD.

Now realize I have memory problems. What day of the week is it? But I recall reading that the 83's could get LSD as a option with the package that included rear sway bars and 16" tires. Again my memory fails me sometimes. I do not have 16" wheels but rather 15"'s. I am trully puzzled.

I believe the Sport package was KONI yellows in the rear and a rear sway bar, yes? Because I have both these items, but with 15" wheels and no LSD. Perhaps the 16"s and LSD are an option on top of the Sport package?

I also have a sway bar in the rear. Was this also an option?

To test for a open-diff or clutch type LSD:
(1) Raise the rear, put the car in-gear, release the handbrake (2) Turn one rear-wheel by hand and if: - the other wheel rotates easily in the opposite direction, you have an open-diff. - you can't turn the wheel, you should have a LSD (unless you're the Hulk and you have the physical strength to overcome the LSD plates!) (3) Put the car out-of-gear (4) Turn one rear-wheel by hand and if: - the other wheel rotates easily in the opposite direction, you have an open-diff. - the other wheel turns in the same direction, you probably have a LSD. I say 'probably' because in theory, there maybe enough friction in the diff/half-shaft to overcome the friction in the rest of the gearbox and so you may get both wheels turning with an open-diff. But this is unlikely. - you can't turn the wheel, you probably forgot to release the handbrake! Karl.

I have an 83 5 speed with LSD. It does have the 16" Fuchs and the rear sway bar too. So it was an available option in 83.
Isn't it option code 220, that should be found in the rear of the car?
