hello guys.... new to the board but not the porsche world... got a question that i just cant get answered... i have an 85.5 944.. when i plug in the smaller plug on the alarm box it wont start and the horn goes crazy.. unplug it and the horn turns off and the car will start... also the fuse block under the hood.. is that the only fuse block on the vehicle? last one.. the fuel pump in the back... the strap that goes under the tank that holds on the cover.. does that hold up the tank or just the cover? and how do i get the fuel pump out of the cover? any and all help would be greatly appreciated!!
David

Sounds like either your alarm module has failed, the key switch has failed, or the alarm is armed. The small plug is power, the large plug goes to the door switches, hatch switch, hood switch, DME relay, arming (key) switch, alarm horn, and possibly the fog and running lights.
As a test, get in the car, shut the doors, and plug the power plug into the module. If the alarm goes off, chances are the module is bad. If the alarm does not go off, open a door. If the alarm goes off, chances are the module is good. If the alarm went off when you opened the door, check the key switch behind the driver side door. When the key hole is vertical the alarm is disabled. When the key hole is horozontal the alarm is armed. To get to the switch, carefully remove the black plastic trim ring. Under the ring is a nut. Remove the nut. Remove the vent louver on the driver side door jamb. Reach up inside the quarter panel and pull the key switch out. Disconnect the wires. Check the switch with an ohm meter. You can also jumper the wires from the key switch together and test the alarm. Jumpering the wires should arm the system. The last thing to check is the hood switch which is located on the driver side on the firewall just inboard of the evaporative emissions control valves. Like the door and hatch switches, shorting this switch will trigger the alarm.

And! The strap does hold the tank but is one of many so you can take it off to get to the fuel pump. But then why do you need to get to the fuel pump?
