Can I get away with retensioning before 1000miles?

Need some advice here....
I replaced all of my belts today, and everything seems to be performing hunky-dory. I've seen various values for how long you should break in the belt before re-tensioning (I think I've seen values ranging from 750 to 1500 miles). Well, I'm planning on going to this belt party thing in CT, and someone there is going to have the cool porsche tension tool, and it would seem like a waste not to take advantage of this opportunity to re-tension my belts. But I also don't think I can put 1k on the car in the next 5 days....although I do like to drive a lot, so maybe 500-600 miles wouldn't be out of the question, plus the event is 125 miles away. So what I'm wondering is, do I really need to wait for 1k on the new belts or can I feel ok about doing it a bit earlier? And if so, how much mileage should I have on my belts as a minimum?

my mechanic replaced my S2 belts and said to come back in 2000 miles. He said I would have to leave the car, because it would have to sit long enough to be cold when the tensioning was done.

Hope that helps.

You can get by a little early.

The actual published standard is 1K - 2K miles before retension

That said ..P is absolutely correct. the engine does need to be stone cold before doing a belt check.

Hey I thought that the 1987 and newer ones with the auto tensioner did not need to be retensioned after a certain mileage?

That is what my friends mechanic said years ago with his 944S2.

What is a good time to get the belt retensioned after installing it. I ask, because my belt was installed last November, and I've only put 600 miles or so on it. I probably won't get to the 1000 miles until January. Do I need to have it retensioned before then?

600 miles per year?? Wow,less than me.....

And before you retensiones it at 2k miles,itīs needed to retension it more,or you last till the next belt change?
