Porsche Crest What next? - Roughly $750, and what shall I spend it on?... =P [opinion]

Hey people!

All right, well I have roughly $750.00 and I was wondering your
guys' opinion on parts to replace or put in...

Recent Repairs/Parts: [Current Miles: 69,040]
1. K&N Drop-In Filter - @ 67,819 miles.
2. Radiator - @ 67,224 miles.
3. Front Flex Disc - @ 64,162 miles.
4. Timing Belts - @ 64,162 miles.
5. Water Pump - @ 64,162 miles.
6. Driver's Side Window Switch - @ 64,162 miles. (not a typo, 3-6 were done at the same time.)
7. Transmission - @ 63,545 miles.

Considering... [Not in any specific order]
1. Fuel Pump
2. Fuel Filter
3. Chip (FR Wilks)
4. Brakes/Rotors (Squeaking a little)
5. 200 Lb Springs

Is there anything else, in your opinion, that I should consider?

Well thanks for your time guys...
Stay safe now.
Bye.

Fuel Filter - there are two of them, the big canister you are thinking of, and the one behind the main outlet inthe fuel tank - the outlet unscrews - has an extremely fine filter element on it - costs $53 for the part.

Brakes - there are several ways to stop a car, only one of them is safe.

Chip - wory about performance after you have the basics taken care of

In that order of Priorities Fuel pumps either work or they don't, so if yours is working, replacement is not necessary (unless it is making a hell of a racket). If you think you have a fuel problem change your filters, then the regulator and dampener first.

Springs are nice - make sure your struts and shocks are in good shape first.

Thanks man...

And ya, my car recently has been having a little hesitation while
accelerating after starting the car. Which I am leaning towards it being
the fuel filter.

... Anyone else wanna add their $0.02? Or maybe some are feeling generous, and
drop $0.03 in my jar. lol.

If you are getting a little hesitation, when were the cap, rotor, wires and plugs changed?

that takes care of about 80% of the "stuttering under accelleration" problems

I know the plugs were done not too long ago...

And it's only a slight pause (1-2 second) after starting the car, and pressing the pedal while in drive... But it doesn't get to the point of a stutter... or a stall.

After searching though past records, the previous owner replaced the following:

Fuel Filter = on 04-18-01
Wire set, Ignition = 08-23-00

Question:
How long are these parts suppose to last? ....
1. Plug Wires
2. Spark Plugs
3. Fuel filter (guessing 20,000 or less)

1. Wires: As needed
2. Spark Plugs: 15 - 30 K miles
3. Fuel filter (external) 6k - 15K miles
4. Cap and rotor: No published interval, 30K suggested.

Now that isn't a bad idea either - any funds you recommend for rapid growth?

Hey Scott, how is the RS america running? just did a 60K service on one last week.

ya do maintenence stuff- pads, rotors, fuel filter, maybe plugs and wires too- before chips or springs, though if i had the cash Wilk's chip would be really tempting.
you just win some money at the slots or something?

AFJuvat

It's in storage right now, I need a new set of 18's for the rear and I am balking over the cost.

As for running it runs great now, I did end up replacing the fule lines as my mechanic suggested. And it was as easy as you said it would be. I was abale to source all of the hose from my local parts store.

All right, well I'll be sure to take that route. Maintenece then Performance. And man that chip is tempting... lol.

And no, i've been saving up a little cash for no real reason. But I
was thinking that I should get my car running smoothly, so I
decided to spend my money there.

And Thank you all, for your opinions on this subject.
Stay safe all.
Bye.

I'd hang on to the money until something went wrong and makes the choice for you. Soon as you fix something on a 944 the next prob is waiting in line to show up.

save your money on the wires, they'll go a lot longer than that.

How about buying a new MAF system, that's what you're going to have to do to a perfectly good car if you oil it down with that K&N race filter :-) you got there. I hate to burst your bubble, but the only people talking good about the K&N filters are the ones who sell em to people like you and me.

I bought two of them, and then found out what a sucker I was, and went back to the stock filters Porsche intended to have on the car. Rest assured, there is NO horsepower gain. The only difference you'll see with a K&N is the difference between one dyno test and another.

I assume your rubber is okay, eh?

I replaced the mirror glass and visors on my (2) 944s. You can buy "good" convex glass to stick right on top of the existing mirror glass, and you can see three times as much out of them, and they LOOK totally stock. I also did it on my 928 as a safety feature. You seal the top edge with black silicone, and even the heaters work.

You got the front strut tower brace??? I'd consider one of those, and I like the cast hole rotors too, as they look way cool and work too.

regards, P

unless there are any cooling ills theres no reason to do this. and even if there are, this would only be necessary if the radiator was cracked/damaged.
$125 used maybe, more realistically twice that

its not a camaro, why would you put a high stall torque convertoer on a 4 banger with a tranny that doesnt take abuse well?

if by "real boost in power" you mean moderate and possibly non existent boost in power/definate drop in back pressure, than yes, thats a good idea.

what year 944 do you have again?
