turbo internals in a n/a ?
 
When rebuilding an earlier n/a engine, has anyone ever thought of slightly shaving the top of the block to increase compression. I would think that turbo pistons, rings, bearings, and crank could be fitted with some machining of the block. As far as I understand it, there is more stress in a turbo engine. The only thing would be that a higher rated octane gasoline would have to be used to retard knock. Any thoughts ?

I have no plans on attempting somethinh like this, but the thought crossed my mind the other day. That was kind of what I was thinking. There is no substitute for cubic inched. I do not know the relationship in bore and stroke dimensions between a n/a and a turbo. I would think that a turbo would have higher internal stress from the forced induction. The higher compression should exert more force on the piston upon detnation since the fuel is starting in a "smaller" area. The gas wants to expand rapidly, therefore I tend to think that there is a greater force to create the momentum. Any other ideas ?

The turbo crank, pistons and rods would only give you lower compression and less power in the na 944. The turbo pistons are forged and would be a bit stronger than the cast na 944 pistons but the cast ones are plenty strong.
A turbo needs less static compression so the turbo can fill the chambers. Don't even think about putting turbo insides in your na 944 engine. It will gain you nothing. Put headers/free flow exhaust, chip, high flow air cleaner and stuff like that on you na 944 for more power.

Wouldn't the best option for a NA be a 2.7 Litre stroker kit? I have heard about these but never seen one. I think there are stroker kits for both the NA and the Turbos. Does anyone know more? Man, I would love more cc's in my turbo. Now that would be killer.
