Hi, what year 944, and where in Northern Indiana? If it's Ft. Wayne there is O'brien Porsche, but they are a dealer. Central Indiana has a lot to offer. I'm very happy with ******** Merkle, they replaced the exhaust on my jetta and quoted me a cheaper price for parts and stuck to that price, very good people. They work on all sorts of Porsches but are great with the waterpumpers.

Hey, I have an 86, this is my second 944, my first was an 84, I used to take it to Putnam Imports in Elkhart but they sold out and no longer deal Porsche's.
I was at O'daniels today and they don't impress me, they don't act like they care much for 944's or maybe it's just me. either way thanks for the reply, I really just would like to get my new belts tensioned correctly, with the 9201 tool. |

there is an import shop in the gary- merrillville border on broadway called Checkerd Flag Imports. They work on most imports. Never took anything there, but they have helped me with parts for my 84 944

I believe I have been sent by the Porsche god's to help you in your travels. Just by chance I logged on the Pelican tonight (haven't in over a year I think) and I ran across this post.
You need to contact "Marty Hostetler". Not only is Marty our local PCA club president & Club Mechanic, his is the old 944 mechanic from Putnams. He bought a shop (mechanical and interiors) called "Bill's Top and Trim". Don't ask me why Marty hasn't changed the name in over 5 years + years but he hasn't. It's family run right there in Elkhart. His wife Michelle will answer the phone and Marty will talk to you or through Michelle to answer all of your questions. Here's Marty's contact info: mailto:useporsche@aol.com 574-848-7739 Take care and BTW, nobody has ever touched any of my family's Porsche's except Marty and we currently have 4 (brother included). He's not cheap but he's goooood! |

BTW, I've been to O'Daniels several times for PCA events (annual tech session) and you're right... they aren' t very impressive in the service department.
On the other hand the parts department is excellent and prices are better than average for OEM parts. You'll get a 10% discount if you say you're a PCA member!!! I work in Mishawaka which is the other side of Elkart (to the west). My brother has an '88 911 cab and he lives 2 mins from Marty (actually bought it through him... was a customers actually) lucky guy! |
