cabrio questions
I have read the FAQ's, and read a 944 book or two.....I have settled my search on 1989-1991 ...I have to have an open car....so, Cabrio.....my budget allows for cars about 100k miles....any specific 'lookouts' from cabrio owners?

HI capndar,
your sig does not state which country/state your in so first, add that in ![]() as for cabs your options are 911 944 s2 cab 944 s2 turbo cab 968 cab 911's: They are not the easiest to drive, and can be not as forgiving as a 44/68. Personally I dont like the look of the 11 whats its been chopped. Early ones are cheaper but beaware of expensive repairs and non-galvaniesed bodies (rust) 944 s2: I currently have one, 211bhp@208ft/lbs. turbo body and refinements, all usually 44 properties, great to drive 50/50 balance, very forgiving, loads of power, looks great, often mistaken for ferrari, as you lose the tailgate area which defines the 44. Wind buffeting very good, heat insulation, top up/down very good, scuttle shake none. 944 turbo cab: as above, europe only (some stateside) 2.5l turbo engine (NOT an S2), more BHP/torgque 968 cab: different styling, more rounded, more BHP, 238 (?) and torque, compared to the 44 cab, much faster, 68 refinements checks for all above, 1> full service history , pref dealer/OEM 2> belts done 3> check roofs for leaks, some are just adjustments some, need new roofs (s2 cab £600 just for roof no fitting) most cab jobs are not DIY 4> check plastic for damage, creasing and yellowing 5> GET A WIND DEFLECTOR - OEM part only (trust me) 6> get the BEST example you can get/afford. 7> RED once you get a cab you will never go back, given the choice now I'd go for a 68 cab HTH

The cabs are great cars. I love my 90. Lots more power than my 84. The roof leaks a bit, like all ragtops, and it doesn't fold down anywhere as well as my old 1965 Alfa, because it's German. The engineering of the car is absolutely superb, but the top is a bit awkward and won't receed fully into the bodywork like I'd like it to. Having said that, at the risk of sounding like a whiner, I cant think of another ragtop that has the "class", power, style, handling, and sex appeal of a cab.
My wife was in Starbucks the other day while I was parking the car, and some guy ran up to the window and said "is THAAAT a Porsche???" She said "yes, it's a 944 cabriolet", and the guy just gazed out the window, ha ha ha. That made my day. By the way, a 944 S2 will eat an Alfa like a piece of toast. As a matter of fact, a S2 will eat just about anything short of a very special high powered something or other. take a look at my Imagestation album to see a pic of my S2 Cab.P
