Which CV Joints / Half Shafts?

It sounds like I may be replacing rear end parts soon. Had a lot of noise, most of which went away after a good application of grease.

Getting prices ranging from $220 to $70 for new CV's. I believe the whole assembly comes as one unit? What do I need to avoid?

You can just buy the CV bearings on their own - you don't need to replace the shafts unless the splines are damaged.. About £45 ($72) a pop for a quality replacement.

They usually come as a straight swap kit with a new circlcip. There's no point in buying Porsche genuine replacements because they're just bought in bearings stuck in a Porsche box. Any outlet like Pelican will be selling you a perfectly adequate substitute.

Some places here - and I'm sure it's the same there - will do an exchange price for the whole shaft and bearings assembly so you can avoid some of the mess and just bolt the whole lot up in place.

I just bought a whole CV shaft for $166 and popped it into place. It came already assembled and came with new botls too. Now i have an extera shaft and one useable joint it another decides to fail.

Now THAT is a bloody good deal. I just paid $50 for the 24 bolts on their own.
