Post 944S will not start when cold HELP!

I have a 87 944S which usually runs fine. Lately it does not start on the first turn when it has sat for over 6 hours. It starts on the third or fourth time. When the engine is warm it starts no problem. Also the idle is eradic, it idles between 500 and 1500rpm, and on occasion will stall when it is taken out of gear (very seldomly). If anyone knows what I can do to fix one of these problems PLEASE HELP! I appreciate everyones time and help, thanks!

Hey Maciek, my 1989 944S2 has the same cold-start problem, though it runs flawlessly otherwise. Been reading up on Bosch Motronic engine-management, and one thing it says to look at is the engine temp sensor. If it's faulty, maybe mixture is not rich enough on cold-start. My source (Charles Probst's Bosch Fuel Injection and Engine Management) says to also check the thermo-time switch, the fuel-pressure reading and for smooth operation of the flap in the airflow sensor.
I'm a novice at this stuff. Does anyone know if a bad oxygen sensor(s) could cause a very difficult cold start? Thanks for any insight!

dk.... the O2 sensor works only after it reaches operating temperature. Until then the DME relies on "other" sensors, coolant temperature being one of them.

Mac...A Haynes manual has a very good trouble shooting guide. If you plan on keeping your car buy one, if not there might be a copy at your local or community college library.

Hey Mac, if you have'nt checked your fuel pressure yet, (I'm not responible!!} try this, turn your ignition on, wait one or two seconds then turn it off. Repeat two more times then try to start it up. What you're doing is pressurizing your fuel line. If it starts up, your problem is fuel related.

Dk944s2, thanks for the tips, I think that the engine temp sensor may be to blame, do you have any idea where I can get one, I talked to Vertex autoparts today and they dont carry one, if anyone knows who to try let me know, thanks
