eeeiiii ..... eeeiiii .... eeeiii
... is a speed related rattley noise coming from the area directly behind my speedo. What do we think? Is this the beginning of the end for the little cog in the speedo that I've oft read about in various postings?

All kidding aside, it is probably your speedometer cable (you do have an early model don't you?) If yours is the later model, you would be correct: the odometer gears are on their way out. AFJuvat

ditto on the speedo cable. to be honest with you, Juvat, I never did hear gears squeak when they are on their way out. is this an issue peculiar to the 944-51?

It isn't that hard connects at the speedo (duh) and is routed to the drivers side wheel (applies both to 944 (LHD and 945 (RHD) models
