Unhappy Help!! Gear doesn't work..

The gear suddently went dead on my 88' 944s this afternoon when I was on the freeway. The engine runs fine, the clutch since o.k as well because it still rebound when I depress it. But when I depress the clutch and shift the gear, nothing happen. The engine raises rpm but the car doesn't go. Does anyone has experience of this type of problem? Need help!!

Thanks for any suggest and advise..

Question

Can you actually get it in gear? When you have it in gear, with the clutch pedal out, and you open the throttle, nothing happens? Is it like that for every gear? When you have it in gear, with the clutch pedal out, does the speedometer go up when you open the throttle like it would if you were moving, even though you aren't?

yes, I can get in the gear. And everything else works fine. Except the car just doesn't move when I release the clutch. Any suggestion?

The reason why I was asking about the speedometer, is because if the speedometer is going up when you're in gear even though you're not moving, then that means that the transmission is turning. If the transmission is turning, but you aren't going anywhere, that means that the clutch is working and the gears are turning, but the power isn't getting to the wheels. If that is the case, I would think the problem would be your CV joints. Anyone else have any ideas?

Can you get into any gears when engine is running without pushing the clutch? (Be careful)
It could be clutch or tranaxle connections. How much do you know about your clutch history? Any strange sound? Can you feel the clutch get engaged?
Jack up the car. Look around the underneath to see which part is not moving.

Look under car to see if CV joints are intact. I lost mine once, but it made a big noise when it let go at full throttle on interstate.

does the shifter feel kindof sloppy at all or is it exactly the same way it was when the car ran?

Took my car to the mechanic this morning. It's the clutch. I think the disc is broken inside. The funny thing is that I was down shifting when it happens. I was on the freeway driving around 70, didn't hear any noise either. I guess it's probably the time to change the clutch anyway.

My mechanic is going to charge me $1500 including factory parts and the labor. Any suggestion? It this a fair price?

Thanks.
