Unhappy Ka Plunk!!!.....Uh Oh.......

....That's what I was saying this morning when my car wouldn't go any where when it was in gear. I was trying to go up town to go get something to eat, and my car came to a complete and total stop...in gear...running. We put it on the lift and everything is still together, that we could see. Anyone ever had this happen before? Dad seems to think it's in the clutch...and I won't know for sure until like Thursday, b/c my mechanic is in Central America on vacation...I think. Any advice is great........

What type of noises did you hear when it happened? I agree with dad, my first thought would be the clutch. How does the pedal feel? Your car has a rubber centered clutch. The rubber center has a tendency to fail. It is much more common that blowing a tranny. Either way it should be easy to figure out. Pull the clutch inspection plate and look for chunks of rubber. As for the tranny, drain the fluid if you find chunks of metal you know where the problem is. Irf both check out OK then I would suspect the the hydrolic clutch assyembly. I dont own a 944 but usually when a tranny explodes it makes alot of noise.

two 10" Infinity Subs?? don't understand...sub frequencies are non directional...in the early days of sub woofers, they were always a single unit with ‘dual coil’ (1 left, 1 right)...cheaper, saves space (sort of important in a car)...no benefit to have 2 subs...AND it is a sure way to grenade that ring & pinion as Alex knows!!!

(btw...Alex now has a single dual coil sub woofer because he doesn't want to go through another transaxle ! )

If a Tree falls in a forest, and it hits a mime, does anybody care?

Colors, I feel so trendy...

Sounds like a bad R&P. I have a tranny if you need one.

I had a tree fall on my subwoofer once. I made a sub box out of that tree.

Well...the sound that I heard on Wednesday was like a metal on metal sound....kinda like when you drop pieces of metal onto another piece of metal. I heard that when I dropped it into 4th gear....and never heard it again. When it initally went out yesterday, the clutch felt fine, the motor was the same. It felt like my normal car. What I don't get is, I drove it the night before to town and back to get something to eat, then yesterday, I backed it out of my garage, pulled up to the end of the driveway, and when I did, I put it in neutral because there was a lot of traffic coming...when it was clear, I put it back into first, and nothing happened. When I got the car, it needed a clutch, and that was about 5,000 miles ago, so we put a spring center clutch in it from Sachs. The subs that I have are made my Infinity and it's called a Basslink. All it is..is basically two 10" subs, one on top, one on bottom. The top one is the one that hits. The bottom one is "radiated" meaning it's supposed "to keep the sound tight" In between them is the 200 watt amp. It's a pretty neat set up. It's not the trunk rattleing thing that you hear when most of the "ricers" have when they go flying by.

speed girl...when you shifted from Neutral to 1st are you sure it 'shifted';
i.e., is the shift linkage sound, from shift lever to tranny?

G'luck.
macreel

p.s. disable the coil so the car won't start. Crank the engine...
does it crank faster when the clutch is down? No change in
speed? Clutch might be engaged in Neu and with pedal in you
unload it a bit so it goes round faster.

I believe my dad did, yes. He seems to think it could be the throw out bearing.

New clutch 5,000 miles ago...

Check the shift linkage both at the shifter and over the trans.

Check the coupling between the trans and the drive shaft.

If the clutch pedal feels normal then it's not the TO bearing. But if the clutch feels really loose then it could be the TO fork.

Speedgirl...... on a side note.

That box with the 2 subs that you have is it fiberglass? I am building another fiberglass box to pull in and out of the car before track events. I am curious to see how you laid them out in the car.

The sub-box in question is made of black plastic, unless she paid $40 extra for the clear plastic version.

Why can't I sleep?!?!

Damn insomnia.

I guess that I was confused about the reason for the existence of this website, I originally thought that it was an open forum for the exchange of ideas and experiences within a common area, our 944 Porsches, while keeping a sense of humor and friendship. I am truly sorry that I missed the point.

Help me out here:

If you are a newbie to this site, even if you mayhave some years of experience, are you allowed to have an opinion without checking in with Mr. Wilk?

If ideas need to be pre-screened, what is the website?

If you make a joke (about muftler bearings or the like) and Mr. Wilk does not get it, is he empowered to berate and insult you?

Since Mr. Wilk is trying to sell things to the very people that he insults regularly, why is he still in business?

I know I know- its giving me an ulcer too

We'll have to catch up soon, its fun to take people out in it. A brake bleeding party was suggested, and we should do it before the AutoX's and DEs this Spring.

If you're in Boston anytime let me know.
