mid 80s ones were around 220 hp, torque is around 300 i think, and go up from there. There are alot of mod's available to get 300+ hp easily.

In the two's, around 225 for the later ones. In 1994, the first year of the new body style, the 5.0 GT had 215, and then in 1995 (the last year of the 5.0 GT) it also had 215. As an odd tidbit of info, the 4.6 GT that followed also had 215.

220-225 hp....300 lb/ft...for mid 80's

Quite the fun ride.....in a straight line that is.....

Handles like ****

Brakes even worse !!!

But for the price ...they are quite the ride....

0-60 they will give a stock 951 a ride for their money.....but at 80-120 mph...the 951 ...blows it away.....

Mustangs are just not geared for that speed range...

But with a little money....you can make it quite fast!!!.....but then a Ford Pinto...could be made fast.....(but not safe)

The new ones have 260, and 305 ft pounds of tourque. My Buddy has the GT convertible, it weighs something like 3400 lbs. FAT! It is not very fast from 65 on up. It is tough to beat the Tq of the line though. Hopefully my soon to arrive Boost Enhancer will help.

You are correct, Im not pushing that HP yet, (give me a few weeks!!!) The problem is the lag at the start for the Turbo. I can get a pretty good launch if I want, but I dont like the way my clutch smells. You just let off the clutch on that damn stang and it starts rolling without any throttle. The tourqe peaks probably 1000 rpm sooner too. He is in Newfoundland for a few days, so I am driving the piss out of his car Muhahahahahahah!

be real careful of the newest Cobras, the 4.6L 32v V8's are 320 HP with an independent rear suspension... and then there's the Cobra R 385 HP with serious brakes and suspension, I saw a road coarse test where it beat the Corvette Z06 and the latest Dodge Viper, the Viper won all the acceleration tests.

Yeah, the Mustangs are easy to launch, and the transmissions and clutches almost seem to like it! Old chassis...dates back to Fairmont "Fox" platform of 1978 (!) and even then it was pretty crude. What really sucks about the Stangs is the seating position...so high you feel like you're driving a barstool. But great performance for $$$$.

no, they are right about the same weight. 951s are around 3000 lbs with the driver, so are Mustangs. the REALLY OLD mustangs, like from the early 1970s, were about the weight of a 928 (or a little heavier).

OK i'm talking about the ugly, boxy 5.0 mustangs. Not the newer ones. And a 928 is friggin HUGE. I drove that thing just cuz i wanted to try a 350 hp porsche and did pull for ****, it was an auto but either way. It was quite a while ago but i remember testing the 968 right after and feeling like i just got out of a 944 into a 911 turbo. It drove very similarly to my dads 300M, its heavy and VERY comfortable ride, but i didn't like it. cept for the brakes, i kept stopping about 20 ft from the light because i was used to braking in different cars.

8 cylinders always get good low end...4 bangers and v engines always like higher rpms....
so in that sense v-8s always have an advantage from a stop position, but 4s and v-s always have an advantage when u have momentum..especially turbos...why do we want to know about mustangs Andre if we are not racing them r u planning on it later it doesnt' make sense...

Well, I've raced a '97 GT 4.6, Early 90's 5.0, and a mid to late 80's 5.0, all off the line, and have whipped 'em all. That should be all you need to know

This was all pre-chips.

All criticism of the 5.0 is probably on the mark. But, as a young army officer stationed in Germany in the late 1980s, my Mustang GT was a hoot. It could run at 130+ all day and, with its big ugly wing, actually hold the road on sweeping high speed curves. Of course braking could be an adventure.
All for around $15k.

The thing with the 80s Mustang GT 5.0s is that the gearing is very strange... 1st and 2nd gear are very short, but not the other gears, so they launch like a bat out of hell and then the accelleration slows in 3rd gear.

When I first got my 83 944NA last summer and didn't know better (I figured it was a Porsche so it could take anything), I found myself in a drag race at 3AM with a modified Mustang 5.0. We raced from stoplight to stoplight... he killed me the first time, and raped me off the line the second time... but there was no light to stop us, so we were able to wind up to 100 mph with no problem (it was a deserted straightaway at 3AM, but I don't do this anymore)... at about 80mph i caught up with him, and passed him easily in 4th gear. He flashed me into a parking lot and was amazed that I beat him... he thought I had a turbo six and was amazed that i had a 2.5 four... exactly HALF the size of his engine. Say what you will about the 944's accelleration, but the car does have amazing pickup at midrange in 3rd and 4th.
