Though shalt not run a red light!!

Or this could happen!!! My wife was hit by an un-licensed, un-insured driver who tried it...
So, I guess I need to go car shopping...... Anybody know what the BORA option is on a Jetta?
Sure am glad this didn't happen to my Porsche!!!

Could be, there is a 2002 for sale locally, on the trunk it says
Bora........VR6.

They are asking a little more for it because of this and I was wondering what it included..........besides the badge. :D

Yeah, Bora is the european jetta-passat cross. Very nice in my opinion, a good choice. Sucks, but at least it was a ford, not a porsche. Same thing happened to my neighbour 3 weeks ago, wrote-off his truck, un-insured, but had a license. Bora's are pretty steep in pricing, at least around here, and hard to come by, perhaps the dealership could help you out on finding one.

BORA is the german version in name only of our Jetta. It is a popular mod to buy the BORA sticker and put it on the back of your jetta. VW has a hard time selling the Jetta in Europe, so they keep changing the name. Can't keep the Golf in the showroom, but the Jettas sit forever. Do no get taken because someone put a sticker on the back of a Jetta! Still made in Mexico...

So its just a normal VR6? With a BORA badge? The dealer that has it is trying to convince me that its a performance engine option, however I can only find one engine choice for the VR6. I think that the dealer "has no clue".....:D

Bora is a new volkswagen car here...we have jetta from many years ago,and the production finished. The Bora is modern,itīs more like a passat than like a jetta.

And the Bora engines starts with a 1.6.....not a performance car really.

UconnTim97 12-14-2003 03:43 PM

I've heard it is put on Jettas here, similar to R-type badges on Hondas...not really sure how much HP they add though....jk

Zero10 12-14-2003 04:03 PM

Now I don't feel so crazy for calling it a passat-jetta cross, I had a reason for saying that, but when I got told it was a european jetta I started questioning...

By Passat/Jetta cross you mean 99.5 or newer Jetta, correct?

Zero10 12-14-2003 10:52 PM

I mean it if it is the right answer =)
What I meant when I said that is, I have a friend from Germany, he told me that the Bora was a combination of the best of both the passat and the jetta, with some interior changes, a different wheelbase (although he did not back this up with numbers), different trim, etc. The result is a better looking car, that goes faster and is nicer to drive. However, it is entirely possible that he is referring to the european bora, and the north american one is just a jetta with a different badge.

The Bora, just like the Jetta was, is a saloon (sedan) version of the Golf - VR6 is the quick one!

Don't underestimate the power of smaller engines in Euro cars, these things are smaller and lighter (and greener) than Detroits finest. My Elise only has a 1.8 NA engine and it is seriously fast! - (regularly beats 996s and even lesser Ferraris on track)

Stock Elise 135R entered LeMans style Endurance race (with LeMans style cars) in Japan with stock tyres and everything came 3rd overall! Power to weight is where it's at!

Verruckt 12-15-2003 09:32 AM

BORA badge... think type R sticker....

Manute 12-15-2003 02:40 PM

Flangermog is right, euro Bora is really a longer VW Golf. They are really good machines, the newer ones have a 3.2 engine with about 220 HP,just like the 951. Buuuuut.....951 performance is sliiiightly better! With 17 years more.... :D

But Boraīs (at least here) as I said, are like the golf...it has an entry version with little power...sport oneīs are a few.

ilikemy944 12-15-2003 05:08 PM

uhh.... why not a passat with the W12?
has awd as well :)
thats like 345 hp!

cruzermusic 12-15-2003 06:07 PM

get her a porsche... don't run the light ..beat the light
