Post @#%!! Lower radiator hose! Is there a trick to this???

Well, I got my lower radiator hose this morning. I thought this would be a cake job. I got the old one off and sized the two up and they were pretty damn close minus the new one lacked the water pump protector thingy. Anyway got the old one off with no problem. "Easy" I thought to myself until I clamped down the top part of the hose and in vein tried to stretch the blasted thing down to the lower part of the radiator. No luck I could get in on but it was barley over the lip. And when I did get it on it was stretched in such a way that the hose was making contact with the cooling fan. Now when I say stretched it was not stretched so far as to cause the hose to fold in any area. So am I missing something here? Or is this what I get for buying a bumper-to-bumper hose?

Changed mine a couple of years ago but new one had a shield on it just like the old one did. I soaped the inside of the hose and outside of waterpump to get it on.

I just change my bottom hose, it was EZ as it came off. Is the hose too small on the bottom or too short?

If you are not in a big hurry, take it back and get the right part for the job. In this case, the correct spec hose with the ps pump shield on it.

If you still want to make this one work. Put some dish soap on the end of the hose and on the outside of the fitting you are trying to get to. If you still need some more stretch, try holding the end of the hose in some very hot water for a few moments.

I had the same problem. The rubber mounts under the radiator had let it slide back. Causing the hose to make contact with the fans. Check the radiator for proper clearance.
