944/951 Odometer not working? Get you update here! ;)

I got some power steering rack seals from Rennbay. I think he still post here. Well I was just checking out Ebay and I seen the odometer gear for sale. I need this item. :D

Also check out his site for other stuff he's selling.

Description

This is a updated odometer gear for all late model 944 and 951. If your odometer does not work the likely culprit is a broken odometer gear. The stock gears supplied by VDO break down over time and fall apart. These new odometer gears manufactured by Rennbay inc. are made of an ABS blend that will not break down and crack. These gears are precision injection molded to perfect specifications. It's an easy fix that will have you counting the miles again in less than an hour. All gears come with a new E clip, slip washer and they have the spindle pre greased. This is for the US spec models with MPH listed on the speedometer.

I got mine .. but not installed yet .. this sat I will try to do that .. !

Eldorado 10-19-2005 10:44 AM

helluva bump..

anyway, i pulled the speedo out and for the life of me i couldn't open the bloody thing to get to the internals...

you either have to cut the black ring off with a file, or what i did was use a very small screwdriver and pry the the back of the ring up all the way around, carefully, and it will come apart. the ring is brass that is painted black. if you do this carefully, you won't even be able to tell it was apart.

Eldorado 10-19-2005 12:32 PM

cool..

i thought i tried that.. who knows - maybe a previous owner glued the mofo down... i shall try again.

so the black brass ring is folded around the casing?
what screwdriver would be small enough to do the job, but strong enough to withstand the prying of the brass? time to go digging through the old tool box...

mih0001 10-19-2005 01:09 PM

eldorado, did you get the gear from rennbay.com?

Eldorado 10-19-2005 01:25 PM

i actually didn't get a gear... it just recently stopped working when the PO had it (i know him personally) and he says he never pushed the reset button when it stopped so i'm hoping *crosses fingers* that the gear has just slid down the shaft slightly and lost contact with the other gear.
