Ok I am going to find out this weekend if I need a new head gasket or not. I really hope not. I have decided if I do need one I am just going to go with a complete rebuild with zero miles(new h20 pump, timing belt and clutch also). Because my engine right now has 157000 miles and going to need a clutch soon anyways. Ok if your are still reading this. My question is what are some good sources for rebuilt engines(944 NA) and how much is the going rate(excluding the clutch). Thanks again guys.

uhmmmm.....If your compression is good.....I would just replace every possible seal and gasket..... at 157,000 miles.....there are some 944 that will last upto 300!
Just plug up your leaks.....when your engine goes....YOU WILL KNOW....and then drop in a used one....(cheaper than a rebuild, depending where you live) Head gaskets go....and its not life and death.......if they are going to go that far to replace the headgasket....replace the water pump, belts, seals...etc...and it will probably last you another 100,000 miles... ------------------ ![]() 86' 944 79' 924 (R.I.P) |

I think I will take your advice and replace the head gasket and seals(if it is blown, I really hope not).
For the future in case I every do need a new engine, can someone tell me who sells rebuilt engines? |

I think there's an easy answer to who sells rebuilt N/A motors and that is practically no-one. The rebuild price would probably be more than half the value of the car and therefore impractical. You can find many used though 944 ecology, etc.
I believe around here a used motor with no history is going for about $1000. Thats about $900 too much in my opinion for 147 hp and no paperwork. When my 944S lost #2,I was more than happy to part it out. Ponying up over $4,000 for a decent S motor was a serious waste of money IMO. I parted out my "S", making money on it, and bought my 951 for less than the cost of the "S" motor! If I was you, I'd pop some seals on along with a waterpump, headgasket and timing belt if the compression is decent. If its not a beauty queen its not worth loosing your shirt in it.
