I have a 1987 944 turbo. I would like to get it to the 400wph range. my car is upgraded with the following:
I have the heads: ported, polished, bigger valves, stiffer springs. engine: rebuilt with stock crank(lightened, x drilled, knife edged, balanced. and racing rods. I have the Auto thourty MAF,550inj, K27/#8(gone) I have the fabspeed 3in exhaust I think that the turbo is the only thing that is going to add power to my car. I am looking for one that is beiger than what I have, that is a bolt on turbo, and does spool in 1st gear and makes the 400hp+ without going more than 20psi. please help me on this task. i called Huntley they offer their stage 3.5. SpeedForce offer a custom turbo that does the job but will not fit under the stock intake (require custom intake) and will spool in 5000rpm. Thanks |

my cousin went with a RUF KKK K-29S turbocharger, same kind I believe they use on the CTR-2. Shaving the head slightly put the compression up to about 8.7:1 and he completely re-did the head too. Of course in order to make such a high horsepower, the motor had to be bored to a 2.8L and a new wastegate was put on since the factory one became shaudy after 86,000 miles.
Those of you with 951s are lucky. I would get one if I could; but I have grown too attached to my little NA to let it go. Looks like I have 2 loves in my life that I'll keep forever. =) ------------------ |

RUF KKK K-29S turbocharger sounds big but I was hoping for a ball bearing turbo to help reduce the lag. And I already have the waste gate upgraded. I now that stroking the engine is the easy way to reaches the 400+ but I can’t do it now, cause I just rebuilt my engine and can’t afford do it again.

try powerhaus, windward, jon milledge at jmengines.com, fabspeed, there are a few people claiming well over 400 hp. powerhaus claims 4something out of the 2.5-they have that im sure but i hope your not on a budget! windward says the 951 trans can take "only" 350 hp at the rear wheels. i hope to make about that much after saving for a while, you can make as much power as you want if you can afford it. he who has the most money goes fastest!!!

Hmmm...dump the 2.5L motor and get a rolls royce allison 25O-C18 jet turbine motor. Apparently one can be had for ~30-40 grand rebuilt (they are required to replace the engines in helicopters after 2 or 3 thousand hours of operation, even if the engines still run perfect...thats where these come from), and can be adapted to fit your car. You would probably just junk your gearbox and run it straight from the torque tube to the differential (the motors wind up to a dizzying 54000 RPMs). These motors have 300-400 HP and over 400 ft-lbs of torque. Not to mention they weigh all of 100 pounds. Gas milage may suffer, and some "custom" exhaust work may be necessary, but you may be able to get a little thrust from your exhaust if you set it up right.

PowerHaus says they do the 400+ (crank hp) with 1.1 bar boost. They are claiming 365 at rear wheels. I may go for it this winter assuming the old bomb has not let go by then. All it would take is the enlarged throttle body, changing of the pre and post intercooler piping, electronic ignition, and 1.1 bar of boost which I suspect they get by putting an orifice in the banjo bolt tap pre intercooler. I already have all the other prerequisites.
400 hp at rear wheels is a lot. Bigger displacement needed? |

The968 means that i have to start all over and i already spent too much money and time on my 951, Thats apart from the fact that i really love my car and cant let go of it. If a 1.8 civic can put the 400+ on the ground I’m sure i can do it in my 2.5L Porsche.

yes it can be done, if you don't mind putting new head gaskets on every six months or doing the extra special head / block work for these weird o-rings. Basicly it's like this PUMP GAS SUCKS. if you look at the articles that show this stuff they are running on 108 race gas. If they are a daily driver they turn down the boost for pump gas. Thats the major limiting factor you'd need to run 20psi + without knock

The heads and the block in my car are race ready and can take the pressur from the larger turbo. But where can I find the turbo that make the 400+ on the wheels without going to the extreme boost level (23+ psi).

Why 400 hp? At the rear wheels? I would suggest you ride in a 951 with 340-365 @ the rear and make sure that that isn't enough. The transaxle will handle more than 350 only if you are gentle with it and you are also going to need larger injectors to achieve that much hp.
The K27DR from Powerhaus will probably get you close and if you have APE MAF as you say,,they should take software in trade to help with the budget,,,ask for David. Check with Mike or Dave @ Lindsey about the Koklen(sp?) turbo. You would have to change expansion tanks or plug your hole for the turbo water pump because it is oil cooled only, like the 911's, have some internal work done to it. You can get a few extra hp from an intercooler upgrade, may even gain a few from cleaning your old one,,,they do get quite dirty inside after a few years. Good luck. Powerhaus does have a 3.0 turbo engine for sale,,,,,,,,$20k |

I don't know what you mean by my heads and block are race ready what have you had done to them ie other than porting and polishing. Again the problem is Knock with pump gas your going to knock at 20+ Psi. no ifs no ands no butts, I'd look to get 325-350.

I bout my turbo and MAF kit from Powerhaus three years ago. All K27 hybrids are not capable of 400+ no the wheels on a 2.5L. My hop is for a TO4E that well fit in my car.

About the gas issue. I use a 95octan on normal driving. 100-octane blend when racing. And i am happy with the car until the turbo died. Also I raced a friend who has a 2001 M5 and I won. He sent his car to Racing dynamics and got it back the car makes 520hp now and i am the first on his list. That is why I am looking for the bigger Turbo. I hope that you all help me with this.
Thanks. |

I don’t know y u insist on going for a big displacement. Where is the challenge spirit? If I were so desperate for more power I would have gone with NOS to reach my goal. Finally I don’t have this kind of money to spend on my car. Did you guys check Jon mildews intake manifold. It is a piece of art. He said that it is worth 40hp but the price is too much 4500$. This intake + Front mount intercooler can really get me there. Matt I wish I had the 30K
