I won't get into the pros or cons of the aftermarket TRC, but I do like the response a lot better after making my own throttle response cam. All you need to do is take your stock cam off and flip it over so that the tail is on the opposite side of the throttle body, and still pointing to the firewall. Wrap the throttle cable around the cam and make a mark where the throttle cable end touches the cam and drill a hole in the cam the same size as the original hole. Cut a slot in the new hole so your cable will fit through. You'll need a spacer (I used a half inch nut) to place on the shaft that the cam goes on. Put the spacer on the cam bolt, put the cam back on and reconnect your cable. Adjust the cable slack so that the flap in the throttle body is completely closed and there is no slack in the cable. Voila...you just saved yourself $30-$50 bucks and have a throttle response cam that takes about 15 minutes to modify. If you don't like the different feel, or find anything negative about the modification, just flip it back over and you're stock again, no harm done. Works like a charm.

Boy it sure does make the pedal touchy though. Going to have to get used to my car all over again.

No...it's an 87 n/a. Either way the principle would be the same. All you're doing is switching the cable from one side of the cam to the opposite side.

Dennis,
That worked great....had to use about 5 washers.....but it worked.... Just drilled a 1/4 inch hole....and away I went.. I does feel very responsive.....I remember my sisters 924 feeling like this......you just touch the pedal and it would rev up. I drove it today and it feels much better in 4th and 5th.....1 st and 2nd I will have to be carefull it does make the car want to jump of the line..... Thanks for the tip. ------------------ ![]() 86' 944 79' 924 (R.I.P) |

AFAIK...A throttle cam is a throttle cam. Don't see what difference it could make. I didn't have to do anything to the cruise control lines. Completely different animal.
