Post NA gearing in a 951 tranny????

I cracked open my old NA tranny and saw shards of the ring and pinion all over the place. BUT, the gears looked perfectly fine with little wear for its age and mileage. I was wondering, would NA gears fit in my 951 transmission and still be compatible with the final drive? I'd like to avoid buying another transmission. I hope it wouldnt cost much to have someone install them in for me...

BTW: for those of you who wonder why my girlfriend isn't in my sig. I will change my signature in 6 more days after our pictures have developed

because of its gearing. Eurocars have relatively a higher topspeed than US versions of the car...this car is geared high so its higher in top speed than its US variants. But slower in acceleration at the same time.

i thought the main difference between us and euro was in the compression ratio, 9.5 for us and 10.9:1 for them. That makes the euro car 162 hp, that pushes thru the air to 137 mph, our factory 150 hp can only push it thru the air to 130 mph with half load, or so they say....

10.9:1 compression wasn't just for euros. '89 2.7L US cars had it as did the 16v S's. In US trim the 2.7s produced 162hp as well. The top speed is listed at 137-139 for a five speed, in the owners manual.

It's easier to have your trans rebuilt with a new ring and pinion. Call German Transaxle in Oregon for a price. They do good work and sometimes have used ring and pinions.
The ring and pinion from early cars have a different 3rd gear to later ones and you have to use all the update parts. I don't know about using NA gears in a 951 but there are more than a few differences, also 951 trans use two types of pinion bearing depending on year.

I have driven Euro and US 944, the US one is much slower.
Amber fog lamps were only stock for certain countries, usually they are clear lenses.
Front fogs were also an extra cost option!!

Euro cars don't have side marker lights, and as Shaun's photo shows; have driving lights in the front bumper.
