Anyone ever have driven/had ride in a Carrera GT?

when i'm a millionaire, i would like to own one of those. it is just too bad ass of a machine. i wonder what it would be like with a turbo...

A guy on the 911 board is an automotive journalist, and had one for a few days to evaluate. Tough job, huh? He also had a GT-3 for a week.

You could do a search on the 911 board to find out his impressions.

I have a video of one of these evaluations of a new 911. I'll put it on my ftp when I get home from work tonight and link to it here. I think i got it off Kazaa searching for porsche videos.

"top speed = 205 mph"

Porsche is notorious for being conservative in their claims. Claimed 0-60 of the 996 Turbo? 4.2 sec. More like 3.8ish in the real world.

not dumb at all. first question when I read the headline to this thread was "which one?!" (although sure ds meant the new one) not only would I like to have a ride in (the 924-based) one but drive one as well. perhaps the opportunity to find a good used example will present itself someday, as it would make a very good stable-mate for the 951

in case no-one saw it on the other thread, here's a cool pic

I saw a test where the GT hit 204 on a runway and it was still accelerating when the driver began to brake. It seems like it would be quite fun to drive, but i'm sure I would get too many speeding tickets. The excuse "my porsche doesnt like to go below 120" doesn't work in the real world.

hehe, how prophetic. downloaded one for NFS Porsche Unleashed a while back and the guy that made it used the Boxter as his 'platform.' it was easily identifiable as such but it was pretty convincing as a Carrera GT

well, other than being really cool...

it was the first iteration of the soon-to-come 944 turbo. Porsche built about 400 924 Carreras in 1980 in order to race them at Le Mans. the Carrera GT was the production version. I don't know how many made it onto the streets, but I'm sure if one looked hard enough, a few good examples could still be found. the power isn't all that staggering by today's standards (210 hp) but it was quite a bit for a 924, as the 931 (924 turbo) only had about 170
