Fuel level sending unit ! Something odd
Ok, Thought I was in for a quick fix today. My gas guage was stuck on R due to me taking an on ramp at 80mph. I pulled out the sending unit and shook on it a bit until the float started to move around a bit droped it back in the tank "put out my smoke" pluged it ut and nothing still stuck on R. The I took it out pluged it up and watched the fuel guage go up and down. Put it back in the tank and nada still on R. Well I guess I need to break down and buy a new one.

Could you see if the guage was changing while you moved the float up & down?

Yeah I could see the guage move up and down when I was messing with it outside the gas tank.
the sending unit is located under the hatchback carpet. Look for a white fuzzy pad silver on the bottom and sticky. Under that is a black rubber cover. Pry it off and under that is the top of the sending unit. There is a bit of technical documentation about removing this unit on this site but it is for a 911 and WAY off when working on a 85/2 and later. |
Hey,
I had to replace my sending unit too. They run about $120 bucks and are very easy to install. Good luck with it! Maciek |
