Post Do early 944s require a plastic sleeve to use accessories in the cigarette lighter?

I have a CCM navigator hands free kit (it is a cradle/speaker system) that is powered by the cigarette lighter. When I take a corner it falls (from 12 o'clock to 3 or 9 o'clock). I understand that they make a plastic sleeve for European cars that slips over the male end of the accessory. Does an early 944 require this sleeve to get a tight fit? Thanks -

I have had the same problem with DC adapters not staying in the cigarette lighter outlet in my 944. I'd rather not plug them in there anyway, since I think it looks ugly sticking out of the center of the dash. Also, the plug tends to get in the way of the stick when shifting into third gear.

What I ended up doing is removing the outlet from the dash and pulling it out under the glovebox. With Y-adapter from Radio Shack, I have enough slack to reach and it holds the plugs much tighter. Now I can also power my cell phone and radar detector at the same time.

I have a 90' 944 and I do need to use that plastic sleeve for anything other than actual cigarette lighter.

Be brave, hard wire it into the electrical system and skip the cigarette lighter altogether.

my radar detector power cable runs from the far left of my dash, then down under the trim panel, through/under the dash, and then straight to the fusebox (on a series 2 you can see the wiring harness from under the dash - even though the fusebox is in the trunk.

AFJUVAT, I appreciate your comment, but my problem is not with the electrical connection but rather the design of the ccm and the 944 cigarette lighter. The CCM fits into the cigarette lighter and uses it as lever to create a cradle for the phone coming out of the dash. This cradle falls because the fit is not snug -
