why so thin? Try 20w 50. I put Mobil one in which was 15w 20 and it made a very noticable difference.

Change your oil, 20w-50w in warm/hot weather... stop and go traffic or high mileage vehicles.

when you first start the car, it should be at 5. it stays like that for a while untill the engine gets warm.. then at idle it will drop and come up if you rev..

Page 100 of your manual for the 85.5 lists all the oils grades and there suitable temperature ranges. 10W30 should only be used if the outside temps do not exceed 70 degrees farenheit. 20W50 is good for high temps, but not for temps below 20 farenheit. I live in Florida and use higher grade 10W40 oil for diesel engines. It's more highly refined than oil for just gas engines. Before I switched to it, my oil became dark and I changed it at around 3,000 miles. Since I use it, my oil change intervals are 5,000 miles, and the oil looks nearly new when changed. Synthetics are great too, just pricey and have a tendency to leak out seals more easily than thicker petroleum based oils.

You can get the Diesel Oil at any parts store. at autozone, you can usually find it right next to the gear oil. essentially it is similar to regular motor oil - just rifined a bit more to deal with the high stresses of a diesel (read truck) engine - thus perfect for sports cars.

Stick to at least 15-W-50. Your pressure should be pretty close to 5 bar right at startup (unless you live in a rather warm climate - then 4 - 5 bar is normal) at idle, oil pressure can theoreticly drop to 1 bar (though that would freak me out) - but 2 - 3 bar is considered normal (without revving the engine)

Synthetics are good, but there are articles out there that imply that unless a car was "raised" on synthetics, that there really is no real appreciable difference between them and a good high quality regular oil. I've always had really good luck with the standard name brand regular or a synthetic blend (for a lot less money)

Diesel approved oils are at parts stores and Walmart, Kmart and like stores. I haven't seen anything but 10W40 grade available around here...but no problem with it handling the Florida temp's cause it's much better than the standard gas engine oils that the charts in the back of the manual are based on.

I also had a problem with a little low oil pressure then I was driving hard, oil pressure could drop down to 1 bar at idle. I used castrol gtx5 10w40 (synt.). After I switched to castrol rs 10w60 (synt.)(not very cheap.. I think BMW use it in the M5) my oil pressure never drops below 2 bar at idle.
