I've decided to part with my pinion bearing afflicted gearbox. I don't know if any of you would be interested in it, but I've got a lead on a turbo S gearbox [which, as you know has the external cooler and limited slip] that I am going to swap with the current one. You can email me at PorscheG96@yahoo.com if interested. The gears are all in excellent shape, as are the synchros. The box has been making the same whine the entire 15k miles I've owned it and has not worstened. I'm thinking that if anyone on this board is into tackling the bearing themself as a project, they would be interested. Obviously, I am asking considerably less for this unit than those without the problem are selling for.

I personally believe that you're getting ready to make a mistake.
The pinion bearing is such a small imperfection in that gearbox (made by getrag mind you). The turbo S box is durable, but the 968 box is even more so, the only thing that needs to be done is to change the bearings (when it's torn apart, you might as well change all the synchros, and the bearings, and end up with a new box). However, it's true that the 5 speeder has a cooler, and already comes with hardened gears, and a good limited slip diff. standard. And has no other known problems... Well, if none of that convinced you, I'm all up for your transaxle, e-mail me at over1g@hotmail.com Ahmet ------------------ It's all the driver...
