Power Steering Pump.....

Is anyone aware of a rebuild kit or know what is involved with rebuilding the power steering pump?

My alternator belt broke the other day and some of the debris wrapped itself around my PS pully - leaving a small tear in the front seal. Aside from this, the PS is in excellent shape, and it would be a bit of a pain replacing a whole pump for one crummy seal.

Thanks

if you have an early one, you can get a rebuilt one for $108 from Autozone ... worked like a charm for me (although it took 2 tries, since the first rebuilt unit I got was whack) ...
good luck,
E

Well, I tore the pump off today and attempted to replace the seal - no luck.

Gonna have to order a pump (probably autozone)

Ehab, are they the same pumps?

Identical ... but remanufactured, then painted black for some strange reason, but work and fit exactly the same.

Be careful when swapping the pulley, those little 10mm bolts could snap easily ..

Good luck, and don't forget to bleed the air before you put her back onto the ground.

Cool ...

Another mishap was that the old hose with the hollow bolt did not fit perfectly flush with the old washer on the new pump, so it kept leaking ... I tried other copper washers, but no luck .. until I found a nylon washer (soft material that can form into the shape of the surface), and now it is finally secured with no leaks ...

just a stupid broken bolt in the xmember ..

Oh, what I meant by 10mm bolt is the M6 bolts that take a 10mm socket ...
