Unhappy Got the emissions info today: Tell me what you think

It failed big time....

HC - 5.6025 State requires 2.0

CO - 156.5490 State requires 30.0

NOx - 0.3193 State requires 3.0 (*PASSED*)

So what can I do guys? The state requires that I put in at least 200$ into fixing the problem. What do you guys sugest?

Thanks!

-Tony

..uhmm... put $200 into it.... or sell it?

good plugs, new wires, a cap and rotor along with a fuel filter or O2 sensor and some injector cleaner will get you close to the magic $200.00 figure.

put some "pass emissions guaranteed" stuff in your gas tank. my car runs REALLY rich and it passed with FLYING colors.

and also, make sure to drive your car around a bit before going to emissions. the engine has to be warn for the 02 sensor to work right.

Bzzz, you loose.

No way a can of "pass whatever" is going to fix an emmission profile this bad.

open up your DME and turn it 3 teeth counterclockwise...try that first and then go smog it again.

After reading the info packet that they gave me, after it fails the second time, so long as I show that I have put at least 200$ into fixing the problem, I can get a waiver, which I can then use to go get plates. All I have to do in order to get it retested is maybe change the oil or replace some spark plugs.

I'll get this thing right, probably end up costing near 700$ though....

Now I see why these things are so expensive to maintain.... =)

Thanks guys!

euro, the factory position is allready all the way over. you can only move clockwise. going counter wont work. you need to move it 4 points clockwise for it to be set at -3% lean.

Cool

Tony, in your last post about you emmission problems I replied with 2 links. I guess you didn't read them but those numbers are the same as the ones from my car the first time I tested the car and failed.

The car is running overly rich change the O2 sensor ($45) and spark plugs, that will make the biggest difference. Taking the car for a long run not only gets the O2 sensor hot but more importantly gets the CAT hot so if it's not burnt out it will have a better chance of neutralizing the HC and CO components of the exhaust. When the mixture is rich the exhaust gases are not as hot as that of a lean mixture condition.

Been there done that !!!
