Well today I drove my car around a little and when I got home it sat for about 5 hrs or so. I went out to start and turned the key....nothing, motor didn't even try to turn over but all the lights would work like normal. I got under the dash and started checking fuses, non were blown or missing,I kept trying to start but same, then I pulled the fuse for my clifford alarm and put it back and it started. The funny thing is my alarm dosn't have the capability to disable the ignition of the car. So I don't think that was it,any ideas, maybe a relay going bad, this is the first time my car has ever done this. 83' 944 140,000 miles on her, Thanks for the help.

Are you sure that the alarm isn't wired in between the ignition lock and starter? All alarms I have seen are to prevent the engine from being started when the alarm is active.

Had similar problem recently and discovered a bad ignition switch (<$20). Check your battery and starter first. I hooked a remote starter switch to the starter and with the ignition switch in the on position, she started right up. From time to time prior to this failure I would have to turn the ignition several times before I would get a response from the starter so I suspected this was the problem. By the way, Pepboys and AutoZone did not carry the specific switch for the Porsche, so I asked them for one for a Scirroco and sure enough it was the same. Let us know what you find.

Hey guys Thanks....Magnus, my alarm only goes off if you hit, tilt or open any door, I have been inside the car severel times with the alarm on messing around and started the engine, but I will check it out anyway. Scott,my switch has been giving me some problems, but nothing like this,I'll check that out also. Thanks

I washed my engine once and the starter/ignition relay got wet. Same problem. Would work sometimes, not always.

85.5na Had the problem of turning the key and no start or starter solenoid click. Faulty Starter replaced, problem solved. Problem was intermittent in the beginning and repeated turning of the key would start but got to the point of no-go. Got an improved heavy duty starter for $126.00 from a foreign auto parts supplier.

How about this one? Rebuilt starter and solenoid...car won't make an effort to turn over when engine is hot and parked for about 2 minutes
I've heard these solutions: 1. DME Relay bad 2. Starter Ignition Relay 3. Install a starter relay (aftermarket) 4. Tighten ground nuts on starter (no Craig944 it didn't work ![]() someone help here too please... ![]() ------------------ Porsche. Es gibt keinen Ersatz. |

Check electrical cables going to starter for (green)corrosion in the cables, high resistance to current flow. Also, when starter was rebuilt, was the armatuer rewound. Starter armature windings break down and corrode and will not conduct enough starter torque to rotate the engine.
