Thumbs up Early 944 -- Made my Test-pipe this weekend!

Hey Guys
Just thought Id let you know about a couple of mods I did this last weekend.....turned out good too..! First was to cut out my cat to weld in a new 2 1/4" pc of pipe -- (got my new welder a couple of weeks ago & finally gat to use it!). Nothing really wrong with the cat after all, but just looking for more power anyway. Also replaced the O2 sensor.
Keep in mind I also installed a "Nology" profire coil w/ Jacobs wires just before this.
Long story short -- The car is noticablly faster/powerful....not "extremly", but definatley noticable! Also louder....the first day I didnt like the extra noise, but after a day, it's already grown on me....it does have a slight rattle at certain RPM's which I could do without. But overall -- not it's not too bad at all. I kept the stock muffler by the way, but may change it....BTW the 2 1/4" is a perfect match for a but-weld.
I bumped the stock DME setting to "3" -- 6 % rich at first, but ended up going back to "2" - 3% rich....the first time I had a "drilled" air box, and I think that was playing with the O2 sensor. I put a stock airbox on & turned it back to 3%, and it definatly runs great. I have yet to try stock air box & 6% though - who knows, maybe that will be even better...This morning (before I put a stock air box back on) I noticed it was a little sluggish when cold....we'll see tommorow morning if the new air-box makes a difference.
If it doesnt, I was thinking the coolant temp sensor was probably to blame. i.e. making the car run too lean (with the extra air flow & such)....on my old 735, there was a common, similar problem -- people (and BMW) used to solve it by wiring in a resistor in-line with the temp sensor....does anyone know anything about this?
ANyway - definetly rccomend the above mods -

I'm about to do the same thing. I don't think I'm going to weld on the pipe though since I don't have a welder. What diameter pipe should I use if I want to go over the stock pipe and clamp it?

That's tricky - you might have to use an adapter or two -- I'd stick with the 2 1/4" though -- unless you can find 2 3/8" or something......talking O.D. of course...the 2 1/4" was just right for the rear section, but a tiny bit big (like you'd want it) for the front joint.....

Put a pipe in place of my cat with the stock muffler and it is loud as hell and sounds alfull about 3000 rpm's. I am going to put a glasspack straight thru muffler where the cat was to make it not so loud. It was very quit before I removed the cat
