Minor Questions For Recently Purchased 944 S2 Cab.
I just purchase a 1990 944 S2 Cabriolet with 115,000 miles on it.
I don't know the entire maintenance history of the car, but I did find the receipt for a timing belt replacement by a Porsche Dealership for the car (114,000) The car seems to have been very well taken care of, but I would like to give it a complete tune up. I am not looking to hot rod the car up, but if anyone has suggestions on air filters, oil filters, plugs, wires, coils..etc, to give it a tune up I would appreciate it. I have ordered the Chiltons Manual for the car, and am pretty a mechanically inclined, but don't want to dive in and start replacing uncessary items. One other questions. The power seat (drivers side only) will not operate. I checked the fuse and it was BLOWN. I replaced the fuse and it immediately blew again. Any ideas why it would blow the fuse without operating the seat? Bad ground, short.....any help. One more question. The cabriolet top will not open and close automaticly. When I push the switch I hear the motors working but they will not move the top. I can easily open and close the top manually but would like to get it working correctly if possible. THANKS SO MUCH.....Its great to be in a Porsche Again. |

Congrats, James. You'll want to know the status of your chain tensioner right away (search here). If it hasn't been serviced, do that first (and do it now). If it fails it is as bad or worse than a T-belt failure (in addition to bent valves etc. as on the 8V motor, you can have broken chain, broken teeth on the cam chain sprockets).

Agree on the cam chain tensioner; get it checked. Timing and balance shaft belt wil need retensioning after 2000-2500 miles after installation.
Replace the fuel pump relay with a new one unless it's newish. Change the brake and clutch fluid. Keep up with the maintenance and it'll be fine. Good luck on a Chilton's manual; they don't do one.

Welcome to the group
Filters: Mahle Plugs: Bosch Cap and Rotor: Bosch Coil: Not necessary to replace unless it is faulty, Bosch Wires: Beru Have the belts retensioned. Your seat probably has a bad switch or a short in the wiring (the wiring gets pinched in the seat rails) under the seat. This is not difficult to correct. Cab top: This one can be tricky, and unfortunately, there isn't a inexpensive way to correct them. Many people when faced with cab problems loosen the 19mm center bolt on the transmissions and convert the system to a manual top. First check the center 19mm bolt on the transmissions (#8 in the picture below). they could be loose. If they are, you will have to remove and align them (see link below) In either case, It is likely that your cables are worn (#11 in picture). They are replacable. However, you need to remove the transmissions to do it. (the transmissions are on the sides of the car and are what moves the top #1 in the picture below) However, if you have a skicky or binding transmission, you will need to replace it. If the transmissions are too far out of synch, you can snap the frame on one side (read $$$$$$$) Here is a pic of the 944 cab drive mechanicals. Follow this thread: I wrote it for 911 Cab tops, but the same rules apply for the 944 cab. 993 convetible top closure problem AFJuvat
