hi, i have an '87 944na with 108k miles. recently upon start up, it sounds like it is not hitting on all cylinders. ilet it idle for a minute and you could here the engine "kick in" and car would run fine. this happened the better part of a week. now after idling, condition does not change. i put on new ignition rotor, cap, wires, and plugs,to no avail. could this be an air flow problem? i checked the air boot, it is not cracked or ripped. any ideas? i'm close to my wits end! thanks for your help. alot of great info on this board. Mike

Sounds like a fuel pressure or injector problem. Listen to the injectors with a stethescope while someone else cranks the engine. They should sound the same. Then you need to check the fuel pressure from cold.

If you have a infra-red temp non-contact tester, check the exhaust temps on each cylinder to see if it really is only firing on three. If lost go to shop for help. |
