Post disturbing engine behavior

Yesterday about halfway home on a two hour drive, my engine began missing in lower gear/speed ranges. This would occur as I pulled up to toll booths and accelerated to get going again and then correct itself as the car reached 40 mph/4th gear or so.

This morning when I started it the "miss" was a lot more pronounced, bordering on violent vibration. Enough so that driving it to the shop is no longer an option.

Does anyone have any thoughts on why this sort of behavior would worsen to such a degree overnight? I was thinking that this was a DME problem because of the way that it cleared up at higher speeds, but now I'm worried.

Spock

how about some details and history on your car. The year, mileage, last service of belts etc. Also, any previous problems.

Ah yes. It's a 1987 944 na w/ 155,000 miles.
I had the head gasket redone back in January and did all the belt changes at the same time. The head went twice in two years but seems solid now. Also the motor mounts and balance shaft belt have been recently replaced.

The previous owner had the timing belt/water pump go and incurred major engine damage, so it's been through that as well as a new clutch.

There is also a minor issue with fuel injection not being real even when the engine is cold. That was next on my list of things to fix.

Maybe your minor problem is now a major one! Dirty fuel injectors, fuel filter, fuel pressure or O2 sensor!!! Do yourself a favour and add some Chevron Techron to your gas tank and take it from there.

Turned out to be a bad injector. Runs like a champ again.
