Replica Wheels

I know it might be considered virtual blasphemy by the Porsche gods, but how do people feel about Mille Miglia or other brand of Porsche replica wheels (Cup 1s or Turbo Twists)? Good quality stuff or junk? Does the finish seem good and long-lasting?

Seems like I can get new Mille Miglias with new tires for about $200 - $300 less than used OEM with used tires.

I have Jap replicas on mine. Came off of an 86 automatic I parted out. I like their looks over that of the originals. Also they are cut for the early offsets. No futzzing with spacers and lug bolts.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

Nice.

What about the weight difference.

I wonder with spacers etc. if aftermarket might be better since they are already cut that way?

Later 944s have more offset, so they don't require spacers to run 7 and 9" Boxster or 911 wheels.

Spacers or no spacers: If you want to sell the wheels later then keep them the later offset and use spacers. You may have to replace the lug bolts/studs too.

My ride looked reasonable there on the bluffs over looking Newport Beach. Doesn't now as I was rear eneded a few months later on PCH less than a mile from where those pictures were taken. I was in the process of getting the car ready for painting too.

I wasn't worried as much about the weight as I was getting the suspension aligned. Just the slightest change in camber-caster would cause the steering to pull one way or the other because of the wider tires. Yes all of the bushings, ball joints and tie rod ends are less than two years old.

If you go to the owners picture section you can also see the two 924's I once owned.

here's my 86 N/A. I'd like to either refinish the 15" phone dials or get bbs's in black. or a copy that looks good with this body. Turbo twists would be pretty sweet IMO.

It's become my street beater/daily driver.

I'm going to get a turbo -- some day.
