more dumb 944 questions

OK, here goes with today's dumb questions...

1) how do I put the speaker grilles back on the front doors, if at all? The PO of the car replaced the stock speakers with Polks and I can't see how the grilles mounted. I am kinda scared I'm gonna put my foot through one of them.

2) I see aftermarket key blanks available for the factory wheel locks and they're listed by length (41mm etc.) is that the length of the whole key blank? I only have one key and that makes me nervous.

3) I have no rear wiper and I kind of like the idea of having one. Is the wiring already there for this or would it be a big project to add a rear wiper to a car that didn't already have one?

thanks,

nate

One more dumb question. '88 944.

while trying to clean up the interior, I noticed that the pass. side seatbelt is impossible to fasten without twisting. It looks like the buckle was installed backwards on the belt. I unbolted the bolt at the bottom and tried to fix it so it would work properly but I just can't do it. nor will the buckle come off without undoing the stitching. Before I go to the trouble of popping out the quarter window etc. to get at the other end of the belt can anyone offer any advice as to whether or not I can fix this by doing so or do I just need a new belt?

thanks,

nate

Twist the belt then force it through the buckle. Most likely the belt has lost it's stiffness.

The stock grills have four screws in each corner that also go through the four holes in the speaker. Holds the speaker in/on the door.

I don't know about the key blank.

Yes you can put a wiper on the rear. Think you may have to pull the wires through the pillar and down the small tube on that side of the hatch frame. Besides the wiper you will also need the stronger lift strut for that side. Also need the dash/console switch. Possibly a relay too. Check the fuse/relay box lid.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

Was cleaning out car yesterday, took another look at the speaker grilles, they appear to be stock - they have 944 part numbers on them - but they don't have any screw holes, just little clips on the plastic that appear to snap on to the stock speakers.

I'm thinking just drill four screw holes in them, use some little washers behind them so the speakers fit tight against the doors, and some longer sheet metal screws, anyone got any better ideas?

thanks,

nate

Must have changed the grills sometime after the 86 I parted out. These have the through holes in each corner. Guess you could try to get them from a dealer or a well stocked 944 salvage yard.
